JIPSINDO
Journal Policies
| Who may be an author | Only people who meet the Authorship Criteria, with contributions stated using CRediT roles |
| Who requests a change | The corresponding author, on behalf of all authors |
| Who approves | The Editor-in-Chief |
| Not allowed | Gift, guest, ghost, coercive, and purchased authorship, and changes made for reasons other than contribution. See section 02. |
| Gift or honorary authorship | Listing someone who did not contribute substantially, as a favour or out of respect, for example a head of department, a supervisor who only gave general support, a colleague, or a friend. Example: adding the dean as co-author because the study took place in the faculty. |
| Guest authorship | Adding a well-known or senior person to make the manuscript look stronger or more likely to be accepted, although they did not take part in the work. |
| Ghost authorship | Leaving out someone who made a substantial contribution, such as writing or analysing the data, including a paid writer, an assistant, or a student whose work forms part of the study. Professional language editing is not authorship, but should be acknowledged. |
| Coercive authorship | Demanding authorship because of position or power, for example a superior, supervisor, or funder who insists on being listed without contributing, or making co-authorship a condition for access to data, sites, or facilities. |
| Purchased or traded authorship | Buying, selling, or exchanging authorship positions, including offers from agencies or paper mills, and “authorship swaps” between colleagues to increase publication counts. |
| Changes for reasons other than contribution | Adding or removing authors to meet promotion, graduation, grant, or accreditation requirements; adding people from another institution or country to look international; removing an author after a disagreement although they contributed; or adding editors, reviewers, or journal staff to influence the decision. |
| Non-human authors | Listing generative AI tools or software as authors. They cannot take responsibility for the work. See the Generative AI Policy. |
| Authorship without agreement | Listing someone without their knowledge or consent, or submitting without the approval of all co-authors. |
| Adding an author | The new author must meet the criteria, and the reason they were not listed at submission must be explained. |
| Removing an author | The person being removed must agree in writing, and their contribution, if any, is moved to the Acknowledgements. |
| Changing the order | All authors must agree; the reason is given. |
| Changing the corresponding author | All authors must agree; the new corresponding author confirms by email. |
| Correcting names or affiliations | Spelling, name changes, or affiliation updates at the time of the work. Handled as a simple correction with the corresponding author’s confirmation. |
| Before review | Possible with the documents in section 03. |
| During review or revision | Possible only in exceptional cases. The editor may pause the review until the matter is settled. |
| After acceptance | Only in exceptional cases, and with a full explanation. Production may be delayed. |
| After publication | Only through a published correction, if all authors agree and the editor is satisfied. See Correction, Retraction and Withdrawal. |
