Local Wisdom Representation in Usang Sungging Folklore and Cultural Identity

The development of globalization and modernization poses challenges for the preservation of local culture, especially among the younger generation who are increasingly distant from their regional oral traditions. This condition causes folklore as part of local wisdom to risk declining its existence and losing its relevance in the life of modern society. The purpose of this study is to examine the representation of local cultural values in the legend of Usang Sungging as an effort to strengthen the cultural identity of the community. This research adheres to a qualitative descriptive method with content analysis techniques on the text of the legend of Usang Sungging and other supporting sources. This study shows the results that the legend of Usang Sungging has cultural, social, and religious values that are integrated with each other in forming a system of cultural meaning of society. These values are reflected through character characters, social practices, cultural skills, and people's relationships with local traditions and beliefs. The findings of the study also show that legends not only function as an entertaining story, but also as a medium for the transmission of norms, character formation, and the preservation of cultural traditions. The conclusion of this study emphasizes that the revitalization of legends is as part of local wisdom that is important to maintain the cultural traditions of the community in the time of globalization and social change that continues to develop.
