The Effectiveness of the Project Based Learning (PjBL) Learning Model with a STEM Approach on the Science Problem-Solving Ability of Junior High School Students

Abstract


This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the Project Based Learning (PjBL) learning model with a STEM approach in improving the science problem-solving ability of junior high school students. The type of research used is quasi-experimental with a nonequivalent control group design. The population used in the study was grade VIII students of SMP Negeri 3 Magelang with a sampling technique determined through purposive sampling and samples of students of class VIII B as the experimental class and students of class VIII F as the control class. There are instruments used, namely test instruments in the form of pretest and posttest. The results showed that there was a difference in posttest scores between the experimental class and the control class with the acquisition of sig scores. (2-tailed) < 0.05, which is 0.000 from the independent sample t-test. Furthermore, the N-gain test produced a value of 0.678 with medium criteria in the experimental class, while for the control class obtained a value of 0.412 which included medium criteria. Although both have the same criteria, the N-gain value of the experimental class is higher than that of the control class (0.678 > 0.412), so it can be concluded that the PjBL learning model with a STEM approach is effective in improving the science problem-solving ability of junior high school students
