PEMBERDAYAANPARAPENYANDANGTUNANETRA MELALUI REHABILITASI BERBASIS MASYARAKAT
Abstract
'Educational and or rehabilitation services for people with visual
empairment in Indonesia are estimated not to have reached visually
impaired people
who have attained the age of25 years old and live
in rural areas that have never received educational and or
rehabilitation services so that they are powerless in their life. It is
then necessary to develop empowering programs for visually
impaired people through community-based education and or
rehabilitation.
In general such programs aim at an even distribution
of the
equal chance to get education and or rehabilitation for those living in
the rural areas who are already outside school
age but have never got
education and or rehabilitation. The programs especially aim to
create situations making it possible for everyone with visual
impairment
to live normally their whole life and have a self
confidence and a feeling
of being; close neighbors with other people;
to help the family, neighbors, and other members
of the community
to accept, appreciate, and comfortably give assistance if necessary to
the people with visual impairment in their life; and to give an equal
chance and appreciate the abilities and all the potentials that the
° visually impaired people have.
The advantages
of the empowering programs for people with
visual impairment are that the programs are simple,
inexpensive, ollIld very realistic; they serve these people in their own society based-on
their potentials and individual needs; and the family and other
community members are involved
in the implementation process of
