Review Policies And Processes
A. Review Policies
-
The primary principle in selecting reviewers for each manuscript is that the reviewers must possess a proven track record of having published in accredited scientific journals and/or international journals, with topics and areas of expertise relevant to the manuscript under review.
-
The editor will send an email to the selected reviewers containing the manuscript's title, abstract, and an invitation to access the journal's website. Reviewers are required to log in to confirm their willingness to conduct the review, download the manuscript, provide comments, and submit their recommendations.
-
The review process adopts a double-blind review method, involving two or more reviewers as assigned by the editor. In cases where reviewers provide conflicting assessments, an additional reviewer will be appointed. If finding an additional reviewer proves difficult, the Editorial Board may act as a reviewer. In such cases, decisions will rely on one of the existing reviews, as only the Editorial Board has the authority to accept, reject, or request revisions to the manuscript on behalf of the authors.
-
Reviewers are expected to evaluate manuscripts based on the following considerations:
-
The originality of the author's ideas, including the data presented in the manuscript.
-
The suitability of the research methodology and its alignment with the obtained results, as well as the ease with which the methodology can be replicated by other researchers.
-
The clarity and validity of the data in supporting the conclusions drawn.
-
The proper organization of references from previous studies was used as a foundation for the manuscript.
-
Adherence to writing guidelines, including plagiarism standards.
-
The novelty of the manuscript and its potential contribution to the development of knowledge in the relevant field.
-
-
Reviewers are required to provide an objective and detailed assessment of the manuscript. This may include direct annotations within the manuscript or through the Manuscript Review Checklist Form. Reviewers must then select one of the following final recommendations:
-
Accept Submission: Accept the manuscript without requiring any revisions.
-
Revision Required: Recommend revisions without requiring a subsequent review; the manuscript proceeds directly to the editing stage after revisions.
-
Resubmit for Review: Recommend revisions, followed by a subsequent review of the revised manuscript.
-
Decline Submission: Reject the manuscript due to insufficient quality.
-
-
The reviewer must complete the review process for each manuscript within a maximum of four (4) weeks from the date the reviewer agrees to undertake the task.
-
The primary purpose of the review process is to ensure the quality of the manuscript prior to publication. Reviewers do not have the authority to make final decisions regarding acceptance or rejection but instead, provide recommendations to the editor or the Editorial Board.
-
The journal editor will consider all feedback the reviewers provided and decide to accept or reject the manuscript. If the reviews are significantly divergent, the editor may appoint an additional reviewer to obtain further input before reaching a decision.
-
The final decision regarding the acceptance or rejection of a manuscript will be communicated to the author via email, accompanied by the reviewers' recommendations and comments, as well as (if applicable) comments from the Editorial Board.
-
Accepted manuscripts will proceed to the production stage. For rejected or returned manuscripts, authors are required to revise their work based on the reviewers' feedback. At this stage, the reviewers will be informed via email of the revision outcomes. If further revisions are necessary, reviewers will expect a revised version of the manuscript. However, minor changes may be evaluated solely by the editor.
B. Review Processes
-
Authors are required to submit their manuscripts to the Journal of Medical Science and Sports Health (JoMaSSH) through the journal's online platform.
-
Submitted manuscripts will undergo an initial screening by the editor to evaluate their alignment with the journal's objectives, scope, and formatting guidelines. Manuscripts that do not meet these criteria will be rejected, and the authors will be notified via email.
-
Editors will also verify the manuscript's originality by conducting a similarity check using Turnitin. Manuscripts identified with major plagiarism will be rejected, while cases of minor plagiarism or errors will require clarification from the authors.
-
Manuscripts that pass the initial screening will be forwarded to at least two reviewers, along with the review form for evaluation. The review process is double-blind, ensuring that both reviewers and authors remain anonymous.
-
Reviewers will return their completed review forms and, if necessary, the revised manuscript to the editor.
-
The editor will make a decision on the manuscript based on the reviewers' recommendations, which may include rejection, major revisions, minor revisions, or acceptance.
-
The editor will notify the author of the decision, which could include rejection, acceptance with revisions, or acceptance without revisions.
-
Authors must submit the revised manuscript to the editor without delay for manuscripts requiring revisions. Generally, minor revisions must be completed within one month, while major revisions must be submitted within three months. Authors requiring additional time must contact the responsible editor to request an extension. Manuscripts returned after three months or more will be treated as new submissions.
