Frequently Asked Questions

1. How and when can I obtain a Letter of Acceptance (LoA)?

LingTera’s formal acceptance notification serves as the Letter of Acceptance (LoA). The journal does not issue a separate letter. Authors receive this notification only after the required peer review and revisions have been completed and the editors have formally accepted the manuscript. Submission acknowledgement, progression to peer review, or an invitation to revise does not constitute acceptance. The acceptance notification cannot be issued in advance or guaranteed by a requested date. Publication scheduling is handled separately.

2. Does LingTera offer fast-track review or publication?

No. LingTera does not offer fast-track review, expedited acceptance, or paid priority processing. All manuscripts follow the journal’s editorial procedures. Authors should take their institutional deadlines into account before submitting, as the journal cannot guarantee acceptance, an LoA, or publication by a requested date.

3. How long does manuscript processing take?

As a general planning estimate, external peer review may take approximately 2–3 months, while the process from submission to a final acceptance decision may take approximately 4–6 months for manuscripts that are ultimately accepted. These ranges are estimates, not fixed timelines or guarantees. Processing may be shorter or longer depending on the manuscript’s readiness, reviewer availability, the extent and number of revisions, authors’ response times, and the need for further review. Manuscripts may also be declined during initial editorial assessment or following peer review. After acceptance, copyediting, proof checking, and issue scheduling may require additional time. Authors should therefore avoid relying on these estimates to meet a fixed institutional or publication deadline.

4. Is my manuscript suitable for LingTera?

Please assess your manuscript against the journal’s Focus and Scope, accepted manuscript types, and Author Guidelines before submitting. Because of the volume of submissions and enquiries, the editorial office cannot provide individual suitability assessments based on titles or brief descriptions. If you consider your manuscript relevant, please submit the complete manuscript through the journal’s online system. The editors will assess its suitability during initial screening and decide whether to proceed to peer review or decline the submission. Relevance to the scope does not by itself guarantee acceptance.

5. Does LingTera accept review articles?

LingTera accepts systematic secondary research, including systematic literature reviews, meta-analyses, qualitative research syntheses, scoping reviews, methodological syntheses, bibliometric reviews, and historical reviews that use explicit and systematic methods. General narrative reviews and descriptive literature summaries without systematic methodological procedures are not accepted. Please consult the Manuscript Types page for the journal’s requirements.

6. Are submissions currently open?

LingTera generally accepts submissions throughout the year. Calls for papers may set specific arrangements for particular issues, and any temporary restrictions or closures will be announced on the website. Please check the Announcements page before submitting. Year-round submission does not guarantee consideration for the next scheduled issue.

7. Is there a submission deadline?

There is no general submission deadline. Deadlines may apply to an announced call for papers or special issue; please follow the dates and conditions stated in that announcement. For regular submissions, the submission date does not reserve a place in a particular issue.

8. Can I submit for a particular issue?

Regular submissions cannot reserve publication in a particular issue. Issue assignment is determined by the editorial team, taking into account the progress of peer review, revisions, editorial preparation, and available space. If submitting in response to an announced call for papers or special issue, follow its submission instructions. Responding to a call does not guarantee acceptance or inclusion in that issue. Please check the Announcements page for current calls.

9. What are the stages of manuscript processing?

Manuscripts normally pass through the following stages:

  1. Initial screening: The editorial team checks scope, submission completeness, compliance with guidelines, and relevant research-integrity requirements. Manuscripts may be declined at this stage.
  2. Peer review: Suitable manuscripts are assessed by reviewers with relevant expertise.
  3. Author revisions: Authors address the reviewers’ and editors’ comments. Further review or additional revisions may be required.
  4. Editorial decision: The editors consider the manuscript, reviews, and revisions before deciding whether to accept or reject it. A reviewer’s recommendation alone does not constitute acceptance.
  5. Copyediting and production: Accepted manuscripts undergo language and presentation checks, layout preparation, and author proof checking.
  6. Publication: The completed article is scheduled for an issue and published.

The formal acceptance notification, which serves as the LoA, is sent only after the editors have made an acceptance decision. For a detailed explanation and an illustrated overview of each stage, please see Stages of Manuscript Processing.

10. Are there submission or publication charges?

LingTera currently charges no submission fees or article processing charges (APCs). Please consult the Article Processing Charges page for the current policy.

11. May I use AI tools when preparing my manuscript?

Please consult LingTera’s AI Policy before using AI tools in research or manuscript preparation. Authors must follow its requirements concerning permitted uses, disclosure, verification, and confidentiality. Authors remain responsible for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of their submissions; AI tools cannot be listed as authors.

12. When does LingTera publish?

LingTera publishes two issues each year, in May and November. The publication schedule does not guarantee that a manuscript submitted before either month will appear in that issue. Publication depends on acceptance, completion of editorial preparation, and issue assignment.

13. In which languages may manuscripts be submitted?

LingTera accepts manuscripts in English or Bahasa Indonesia.
