Transformation of intimacy in virtual space: phenomenological study of romantic relationship character artificial intelligence actors

The phenomenon of romantic relationships between humans and artificial intelligence demonstrates a significant shift in experiences of intimacy and affection. This article examines how users construct virtual partners based on their preferences, reflecting fantasies that are difficult to achieve in the real world. Personal and responsive intimacy allows users to express their desires without social pressure or normative standards. This research is a phenomenological study using a qualitative approach. Several concepts are used as analytical tools, including cyborgs, mediated intimacy, and media equation theory. The analysis emphasizes how technology becomes a space for the reconstruction of intimacy and creates ambiguity regarding ideal love. The process of romantic relationships that are formed expands the cultural spectrum of romance beyond traditional boundaries. On the other hand, this dynamic creates the illusion of closeness that feels real, despite its artificial nature. Artificial intelligence is not merely a technological medium, but a simulation arena that allows for the formation of intimacy and ideal romantic relationships according to the desires of humans as users.
