Editorial Policies

Focus and Scope

Criteria for publication in Jurnal Sains Dasar are novelty and quality in experimental and theoretical basic sciences. Articles based on results of research from all aspects of mathematics, chemistry, physics, and biology are welcome. Reports on new methodologies and comprehensive assessments of existing ones, as well as applications to new types of problems are especially welcome. Experimental papers are expected to be brought into relation with theory, and theoretical papers should be connected to present or future experiments. Manuscripts that apply routine use or minor extensions or modifications of established and/or published experimental and theoretical methodologies are appropriate if they report novel results for an important problem of high interest and/or if they provide significant new insights.

Peer Review Process

All submitted manuscripts are evaluated by the editorial staff. The manuscripts that evaluated by editors to be inappropriate to journal criteria are rejected promptly without futher review. Manuscripts evaluated as potential interest to our readership are sent to double blind reviewers. The editors then make a decision based on the reviewer’s recommendation from among several possibilities: rejected, require major revision, need minor revision, or accepted.


Open Access Policy

As an open access journal, all interested readers are allowed to view, download, print, and redistribute any article in the journal without a subscription.



This journal utilizes the LOCKSS system to create a distributed archiving system among participating libraries and permits those libraries to create permanent archives of the journal for purposes of preservation and restoration. More...


Publication Ethics

This part contains statement to clarify ethical behaviour of all parties involved in the act of publishing an article in this journal, including the author, the editor, the reviewer, and the publisher. This statement is based on COPE’s Publication Ethics.

Articles published in Jurnal Sains Dasar is an essential building block in the development of a coherent and respected network of knowledge and those are a direct reflection of the writers and institutions quality. It is therefore important to agree upon standards of expected ethical behavior for all parties involved in the act of publishing: the authors, the journal editors, the peer reviewers, the publisher and the society. Editors of Jurnal Sains Dasar are committed to guarantee that all procedures are directed merely to facilitate an objective and intellectual treatment. Further, the editors and reviewers evaluate manuscripts without regard to race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or certain political and group interest.

Duties Of Authors

  1. Have the responsibility of ensuring only new and original work is submitted.
  2. Must not reproduce work that has been previously published in other journals.
  3. Must not submit any articles that are being reviewed or considered by the journal to other journals simultaneously.
  4. Are only allowed to publish their work elsewhere after receiving a formal rejection from the journal or if their request to withdraw their work is officially accepted by the journal.
  5. Must inform the Chief Editor or the publisher of any inaccuracy of data in their published work so that correction or retraction of article can be done.
  6. Should make significant contributions and be held accountable for any shortcoming in their work.

Duties Of Reviewers

  1. Must disclose any competing interest before agreeing to review a submission.
  2. Can refuse to review any submission due to a conflict of interest or inadequate knowledge.
  3. Review all submissions objectively, fairly and professionally.
  4. Reveal any ethical misconduct encountered while reviewing to the Chief Editor for further action.
  5. Should ensure the originality of a submission and be alert to any plagiarism and redundant publication.
  6. Must not discuss the content of the submission without permission.
  7. Adhere to the time allocated for the review process. Requests for extension to review the submission is at the discretion of the Chief Editor.

Duties Of Editorial Board Members

  1. Actively contribute to the development and the greater good of the journal.
  2. Act as ambassadors for the journal.
  3. Continuously support and promote the journal.
  4. Review any work assigned to them.

Duties Of Chief Editor

  1. Evaluate manuscripts fairly and solely on their intellectual merit.
  2. Ensure confidentiality of manuscripts and not disclose any information regarding manuscripts to anyone other than the people involved in the publishing process.
  3. Has the responsibility to decide when and which articles are to be published.
  4. Actively seek the views of board members, reviewers and authors on how to improve/ increase the image and visibility of the journal.
  5. Give clear instructions to potential contributors on the submission process and what is expected of the authors.
  6. Ensure appropriate reviewers are selected/ identified for the reviewing process.

Jurnal Sains Dasar (J. Sains Dasar) is a high quality open access peer reviewed research journal on basic sciences area that is published by Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Yogyakarta State University. J. Sains Dasar welcomes and acknowledges high quality theoretical and experimental original research papers, from researchers, academicians, professional, practitioners and students from all over the world.

Procedure to Avoid Plagiarism

Procedure to Avoid Plagiarism

After we receive the articles, we send it to the admin who are responsible for Turnitin account that our university has. He will do the scanning process. From the result of scanning, if we do not find any plagiarism, we will forward the articles to the editor. However, if we find that there is a plagiarism, there will be two actions. First, if the plagiarism is less than 40%, we recommend the writer to revise his/her paper/article. Second, if it is more than 20%, we will reject the papers/articles.
