Teacher is one of vital components in education system. The quality of teacher has a significant effect on the quality of education. Any effort of education improvement will never be achieved if it does not take teacher quality improvement as a part of it. This article will discuss about the quality of teacher and its implication on the quality of education. In fact, in Indonesia, the quality of teacher is still poor. Many teachers have not met the standards of academic qualification and teacher competencies. Besides that, for many years, teacher profession has been regarded as an unattractive profession with low acknowledgment from the society. Allotthese give impacts on the low quality of education measured from the education outcomes. To improve this situation, the teacher should have the competencies needed for today and in the future.
