This research is motivated by the low social studies learning outcomes of grade IX students of SMPN 2 Gunung Bintang Awai, where 40% of students did not achieve the Minimum Competency (KKM) due to the dominance of monotonous and uninteresting lecture methods. To address this problem, this study focuses on testing the effectiveness of using video-based learning media as an effort to improve the social studies learning outcomes of grade IX students of SMPN 2 Gunung Bintang Awai in the 2024-2022 academic year. This study uses the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method of the Kemmis and McTaggart model which was implemented in three cycles on 28 students. Data collection was carried out through learning outcome tests and observation sheets to measure students' learning completeness progressively. The results of the study showed a very significant increase. The level of student learning completeness increased from only 35.7% in the pre-cycle, to 43.0% in Cycle I, jumped to 78.6% in Cycle II, and reached its peak at 92.8% in Cycle III. This drastic improvement occurred after the strategy was changed from simply showing videos passively to active learning that integrates videos with classroom Q&A sessions and structured group discussions and interactive quizzes. It was concluded that the effectiveness of video-based learning media lies not solely in the technology itself, but rather in the accompanying pedagogical strategy, where synergy with active and engaging learning methods is the key to success.
