The influence of cyber culture in social studies learning on students’ digital literacy skills

Abstract


The use of digital media and the internet has become more widespread after the Covid-19 pandemic. Currently, its use has reached all areas of life including education. Social studies is one of the subjects that often utilize the internet as a learning resource. The widespread use of digital media and the internet creates a new phenomenon called cyber culture. Cyber culture needs to be balanced with qualified digital literacy skills. Digital literacy skills can be honed through learning activities in the classroom including the use of interactive power points, the assessment process with the CBT system, and the use of various google products to collect assignments and search for material sources. Digital literacy skills can help students to obtain and evaluate information critically so as to avoid hoax information. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to analyze the influence of cyber culture in social studies learning on students' digital literacy skills. This study uses a quantitative approach with correlational methods through data collection techniques of observation, document study and questionnaire. The location of this research was at SMP Negeri 50 Bandung with a population of students in grades seventh, eighth, and ninth totaling 1,169. The sample used amounted to 300 students. The data analysis technique used is a simple linear regression analysis test. The results showed that there was a significant influence between cyber culture in social studies learning on students' digital literacy skills at SMP Negeri 50 Bandung with the variable correlation level in the medium category.
