About the Journal

Sungging: Journal of Innovative, Cultural, Transdisciplinary Art and Kriya Discourse

Sungging
is a biannual, bilingual (Bahasa Indonesia-English), peer-reviewed academic journal that provides a platform for disseminating research findings, creative practices, and theoretical reflections from researchers, academics, artists, designers, professionals, and practitioners in visual art, kriya, crafts, design, art education, and other relevant disciplines. The journal prioritises the integration of cultural and glocal (global-local) perspectives with innovative and contemporary practices, supporting interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approaches that bridge cultural heritage with forward-looking artistic and educational innovations. Sungging aims to advance critical discourse and creative development within its scope by committing to diverse perspectives and methodologies.

Sungging welcomes two main types of submissions: text-based and visual-based articles. Text-based articles encompass scholarly works, such as original research papers, theoretical discussions, critical analyses, and case studies, that offer in-depth insights into related disciplines. Visual-based articles showcase creative outputs, from portfolios and project documentation to visual essays, accompanied by reflective texts that situate the work within relevant theoretical, educational, or cultural contexts. This dual-format model enables Sungging to embrace the full spectrum of academic and artistic contributions, reflecting the dynamic and evolving nature of the visual and design arts.

Peer Review Process

The editorial board will select all accepted manuscripts. Selected manuscripts will be sent to reviewers. Peer review was carried out with a blind review to ensure objectivity in assessing the feasibility of the manuscript. Reviewers decide in four categories: ACCEPTED, REVISED, RESEND FOR REVIEW, and REJECTED. Selected manuscripts will be edited and published. All manuscripts published in Sungging are free of charge.

Publication Frequency

This biannual journal follows a rolling publication model, where articles are published individually as soon as they are ready. Once the editorial and peer-review processes are complete, articles are immediately added to the "current" volume's Table of Contents without waiting for a whole issue to be compiled. The "current" volume is continuously updated as new articles are published until it reaches a predefined number of items or a specific period, after which it is closed and archived. A new volume is then opened, continuing the same rolling publication approach.

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global knowledge exchange.
