Author Guidelines

The General Instruction

  1. Manuscript to be sent for publication in the ProGCouns: Journal of Professionals in Guidance and Counseling must be about research, theory, practice, and policy in educational psychology and counseling.
  2. Manuscripts are written in English. The language and styles used in the body of the manuscript are to be considered as one aspect of manuscript evaluation. The writer is advised to maintain accuracy including, for example, the use of a proofreader’s services. Authors have the responsibility to avoid plagiarism at all costs and should follow appropriate writing techniques. The editor will examine the resemblance of texts using computer software (e.g., Turnitin), allowing tolerance of not more than 20%, before sending the manuscript to the reviewer.
  3. In general, an article is between 3,000 and 7.000 words in length including the title, abstract, tables, and references. The article is typed on Microsoft Word with a line space of 1, font type Garamond, font size 12, in one column of the .doc format, .docx, or .rtf (not of the pdf. format). Page numbers are not needed. The body of the article consists of four main sections; namely:  introduction (20%), method (10%), findings and discussion (60%), and conclusion and references (10%). The reference list is also an important part of the article. It is advisable to include only internationally accessible, reliable, and reputable references.

  5. Any images, graphs, and tables are presented in the following arrangement:
    • Image photographs must be sharp enough to be printed on glossy paper.
    • Image, graph, and table size should meet the journal page setup.
    • Images and graphs are adjustable to be printed on white paper and black ink.
    • All of these should be numbered and referred to in the text.
  1. The citation and references are referred to American Psychological Association (APA) (Seventh Edition) style. The author is strongly recommended to use Reference Manager applications (Mendeley, Zotero, Endnote, RefWorks, etc) to facilitate referencing

The Guidelines of Constructing Article

Manuscripts should be compiled in the following order:

Title
The title of the manuscript should be clear and representative (reflecting the content of the whole manuscript. Besides, the title has to contain the keywords, protect the privacy and security of the research’s subjects)

Author identities
Authors' identities (under the title) on the submitted manuscript should be omitted, and replaced by the following item:

Anonymous
(Author's identity is omitted due to the review process)

Note:
Please fill in Author(s)’ identity(es) completely in the submission form. All Author(s)' names and identity(es) must be completely embedded in the form filled in by the corresponding author: email; affiliation; and each author's short biography (in the column of 'Bio Statement').

Abstract

Reflecting on the substance of the whole contents of the article and enabling to help readers to determine its relevance to their interest and decide whether or not to read the full document. The abstract consists of a statement about the background, the objective of the study or focus of discussion, method or important research steps, findings and discussion, and conclusion. The title and abstract are written in English, each in one paragraph, with single spacing, and in total about 150-250 words.

Keywords
Each manuscript should have 3 to 6 keywords written under the abstract. The keywords should help audience search the relevant literature to their interest.

Main text

 Introduction
Containing backgrounds of the problem, depiction and further scrutiny of the problem or the gap between what is idealized and what is the reality, supported by relevant theories and recent research, and objective of the study. The problem should offer a new research value or benefit as an innovative endeavor, written more or less 20% of the whole body including the title and abstract.
 Method
Written out briefly, concisely, clearly, but adequately so that it can be replicated. This section contains an explanation of the research approach, subjects of the study, the conduct of the research procedure, use of materials and instruments, data collection, and analysis techniques. These are not theories. In the case of statistical uses, formulas that are generally known should not be written down. Any specific criteria used by the researcher in collecting and analyzing the research data should be completely described, including the quality of the instruments, material of the research, and procedure of data collection. This section should be written about 10% (for qualitative research) or 15% (for quantitative research) of the body.
 Findings and Discussion

Results of data analyses can be presented in tables, graphs, figures, or any combination of the three. Tables, graphs, or figures should not be too long, too large, nor too many. The writer is advised to use decent variation in presenting tables, graphs, or verbal descriptions. All displayed tables and graphs should be referred to in the text. The format of the tables is shown in Table 1. Tables do not use column (vertical) lines and row (horizontal) lines are used only for the head and tail of the table. The font of the table entry may be reduced. Figures in the table should not be over-repeated in the narration before or after the table. The font style is Garamond, 10 pt.


 Conclusion (and implications, recommendations, or suggestions, if any)

Intended not only to repeat findings. The conclusion contains substantialization of meaning. It can present a statement of what is being expected as proposed in the “Introduction” and what has happened as reported in the “Findings and Discussion” so that there is compatibility.  An addition can be made concerning the prospects of enriching the research findings and developing the potential for future research.

The funding or grant-awarding bodies is acknowledged in a separate paragraph. For single agency grant: "This work was supported by the [Name of Funding Agency] under Grant [number xxxx].

APA Style format for references can be checked in http://www.citationmachine.net/apa/cite-a-website. The author is strongly recommended to use Reference Manager applications to facilitate referencing.

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  2. The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  3. Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  4. The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  5. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  6. If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.
