Analysis of the Effectiveness of the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) Approach in Empowering Arts and Culture in Beji Village

Abstract

Beji Village holds immense potential in local arts and culture, which could be leveraged to achieve the status of a cultural pioneer village. However, significant challenges persist, such as lacking a dedicated center for artistic activities and insufficient cultural development efforts. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach in empowering local arts and culture in Beji Village, employing a qualitative research design with a case study approach. Data collection techniques involved observation, interviews, and documentation to gather in-depth information on the impact of the ABCD approach. The findings reveal that the ABCD approach successfully empowered the community by enhancing skills and preserving arts and culture through a series of programs designed by the PPKO Visual Arts team in collaboration with partners. The flagship program, titled Berbinar ("Together Beji Shines"), played a central role in this process. These findings are expected to provide valuable insights for practitioners and local governments in designing more effective resource empowerment programs, ensuring sustainable development of arts and culture in similar community settings.
