Abstract

The 21st century is marked by rapid technological advances and an increasingly global economy, critical thinking has emerged as a highly relevant and indispensable skill for Alpha Generation students. It is the skill of thinking logically and wisely and making informed decisions about what to believe or do. This research aims to develop SSI-based WebQuest media to improve the critical thinking skills of elementary school students, including Alpha Generation, on science learning. The SSI-based WebQuest media was designed using the ADDIE model (Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluate) and tested on 20 fifth-grade students at an International Christian Elementary School in West Surabaya in the even semester of the 2023/2024 academic year. The research design used was one group pretest-posttest. Research data were obtained through data collection techniques including validation, observation, critical thinking skills test, and questionnaire. The data were analyzed descriptively quantitatively. Students' critical thinking skills were analyzed by n-gain and Nonparametric Tests. The results showed that: (1) SSI-based WebQuest media developed were classified as very valid; (2) learning activities were carried out very well; (3) students' critical thinking skills increased with an average n-gain value of 0.70 (high category); and (4) students' response to the learning that was carried out was classified as good with a percentage of 81%. Based on the analysis and discussion results, this study concludes that the SSI-based WebQuest media developed are valid, practical, and effective in improving the critical thinking skills of Alpha Generation students on science learning.
