Tafsir atas buku “Democracy and Education” karya John Dewey oleh pendukung demokrasi

Abstract
Buku John Dewey, Democracy, and Education, yang diterbitkan pada tahun 1916, dianggap sebagai batu loncatan pendidikan demokrasi. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk menelusuri dan mengidentifikasi varian-varian interpretasi di kalangan Deweyan. Artikel ini merupakan tinjauan pustaka. Setidaknya ada delapan persepsi terkait dengan tulisan Dewey tentang pendidikan demokrasi. Ada elitis, liberal, neoliberal, deliberatif, multikulturalis, partisipatif, kritis, dan agonistik. Masing-masing memiliki konsepsi, implikasi, saran, kritik, dan debat yang berbeda terkait dengan tulisan Dewey. Namun dalam artikel ini, hanya menguraikan dua di antaranya, yakni liberalis dan neoliberalis. Pengajaran Demokrasi memiliki manfaat multitafsir tersebut. Disarankan agar guru memilih dan memodifikasi berbagai saran yang ditawarkan oleh sarjana pendidikan demokrasi mengikuti keadaan atau faktor kontekstual dalam mengajarkan demokrasi.
