Prototype of a Control and Monitoring System for a Single-Phase Electrical Load Power Factor Correction Device Based on the Internet of Things (IoT)

The problem of low power factor causes an increase in apparent power consumption and electric current. This research designs a prototype Internet of Things (IoT)-based power factor improvement system that can be controlled and monitored in realtime. The system uses ESP32, PZEM-004T v3.0 sensor, and SSR for automatic capacitor regulation, with data sent to the ThingsBoard platform via MQTT. Test results showed an improvement in power factor from 0.65 to >0.85 as well as a significant decrease in current and apparent power. The IoT monitoring works accurately (61-80 ms) and is able to display realtime data according to TIPHON standards.
