RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN CONCENTRATION AND SHOOTING ACCURACY IN BASKETBALL ATHLETES AGED 12–14 YEARS
Abstracts
This study aimed to determine the relationship between concentration levels and shooting accuracy among basketball athletes aged 12–14 years. A quantitative approach with a correlational design was employed. The study subjects consisted of 100 basketball athletes aged 12–14 years, selected via purposive sampling based on age criteria and regular basketball training experience. Concentration was measured using the Grid Concentration Test, while shooting accuracy was assessed through a 20-shot test performed from a standard position. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, normality tests, linearity tests, Pearson correlation, and simple linear regression at a 5% significance level. The analysis revealed a mean concentration score of 15.74 ± 3.20, while shooting accuracy averaged 14.58 ± 3.76 successful shots (72.40%). Both variables met normality assumptions, and the relationship between them was linear. Correlation analysis yielded a coefficient of r = 0.461 (p < 0.001), indicating a positive and significant relationship between concentration and shooting accuracy. The coefficient of determination was 21.2%, showing that concentration contributed to the variation in shooting accuracy, while 78.8% was influenced by other factors. These findings reinforce the importance of integrating psychological skills training-specifically concentration training with shooting technique training in the development of athletes aged 12–14 years.
