LITERA is a high quality open access peer reviewed research journal that is published by Faculty of Languages and Arts, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta. LITERA is providing a platform for the researchers, academicians, professionals, practitioners, and students to impart and share knowledge in the form of high quality empirical original research papers on linguistics, literature, and their teaching.

Peer Review Process

All submitted manuscripts are read by the editorial staff. Those manuscripts evaluated by editors to be inappropriate to journal criteria are rejected promptly without external review. Manuscripts evaluated to be of potential interest to our readership are sent to double-blind reviewers. The editors then make a decision based on the reviewer’s recommendation from among several possibilities: rejected, require major revision, need minor revision, or accepted.

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

Archiving

This journal utilizes the LOCKSS system to create a distributed archiving system among participating libraries and permits those libraries to create permanent archives of the journal for purposes of preservation and restoration. More...

Publication Ethics

This is the statement of ethics for LITERA published by Faculty of Languages and Arts, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta. This statement was adapted from the principles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and covers the code of ethics for chief editor, editorial board members, reviewers and authors. Articles published in LITERA is an essential building block in the development of a coherent and respected network of knowledge on education and those are a direct reflection of the writers and institutions quality. It is therefore important to agree upon standards of expected ethical behavior for all parties involved in the act of publishing: the authors, the journal editors, the peer reviewers, the publisher and the society.  Editors of LITERA are committed to guarantee that all procedures are directed merely to facilitate an objective and intellectual treatment. Further, the editors and reviewers evaluate manuscripts without regard to race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or certain political and group interest.

Duties Of Authors

1. Have the responsibility of ensuring only new and original work is submitted.
2. Must not reproduce work that has been previously published in other journals.
3. Must not submit any articles that are being reviewed or considered by the journal to other journals simultaneously.
4. Are only allowed to publish their work elsewhere after receiving a formal rejection from the journal or if their request to withdraw their work is officially accepted by the journal.
5. Must inform the Chief Editor or the publisher of any inaccuracy of data in their published work so that correction or retraction of an article can be done.
6. Should make significant contributions and be held accountable for any shortcoming in their work.

Duties Of Reviewers

1. Must disclose any competing interest before agreeing to review a submission.
2. Can refuse to review any submission due to a conflict of interest or inadequate knowledge.
3. Review all submissions objectively, fairly and professionally.
4. Reveal any ethical misconduct encountered while reviewing to the Chief Editor for further action.
5. Should ensure the originality of submission and be alert to any plagiarism and redundant publication.
6. Must not discuss the content of the submission without permission.
7. Adhere to the time allocated for the review process. Requests for extension to review the submission is at the discretion of the Chief Editor.

Duties Of Editorial Board Members

1. Actively contribute to the development and the greater good of the journal.
2. Act as ambassadors for the journal.
3. Continuously support and promote the journal.
4. Review any work assigned to them.

Duties Of Chief Editor

1. Evaluate manuscripts fairly and solely on their intellectual merit.
2. Ensure confidentiality of manuscripts and not disclose any information regarding manuscripts to anyone other than the people involved in the publishing process.
3. Has the responsibility to decide when and which articles are to be published.
4. Actively seek the views of board members, reviewers, and authors on how to improve/ increase the image and visibility of the journal.
5. Give clear instructions to potential contributors to the submission process and what is expected of the authors.
6. Ensure appropriate reviewers are selected/ identified for the reviewing process.

Call for Papers

History

LITERA, Journal of Linguistics, Literature, and Their Teaching, with ISSN 2460-8319 (Online) and ISSN 1412-2596 (Print), first published in April 2002 by Faculty of Languages and Arts, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta. It was published twice a year in April and October. Since 2018, Litera has changed its publication period into three times a year in March, July, and November.

Author Guidelines

Authors who wish to submit articles must send them via the system and it is free of charge. Here are the guidelines for writing the manuscripts:

1. The articles must be original and have never been published or are being submitted to another journal. The articles should be about linguistics, literature, or their teaching. The manuscripts should be 5,000-8,000 words, single-spaced using A-4 paper size, Times New Roman size 11.

2. The name of the author should be written without academic titles and placed under the title of the article, followed by the name of the institution and mailing address (email or phone number). If the manuscript is written by a team, all members of the team must be written. However, the editor only deals with the main author or whose name is in the first place.

3. The articles should be written in academic English. The subtitles should be aligned to the left without numbering.

4. The articles should be written in the following systematic order: title, author’s name, address of institution and correspondence (e-mail address), abstract (150-200 words: containing background, objectives, methods, research results, and main conclusions); keywords (max 5 words); introduction (containing research problems, current scientific situation, may refer to the literature on which research is based); method; results and discussion (reinforced by relevant research theories or findings); conclusion; acknowledgments; references.

5. Referral sources should be up-to-date (the last five years). Primary referral sources are preferable (research articles in scientific journals/magazines or research reports).

6. The information on citations/references is written in brackets. Mention the pages of direct quotations, for example: ... (Michael, 2000:48).

7. The references are listed alphabetically and chronologically according to the APA 7th edition guidelines.
