Naskah Serat Asmaralaya: sakaratulmaut dalam konsep kejawen

Abstract


The initial step taken in the recearch is reading the text of Sérat Asmaralaya for used orthography. The results are the edited and translated into Bahasa Indonesia. The data obtained from the edited version are afterwards analyzed by means of Riffaterre’s semiotics, which aims at producing meaning from all the signs found in the text, seeking (1) forms indicating indirectness of expression in poetry are displacing of meaning occurs in the form of simile and metaphor, distorting of meaning occurs in the form of ambiguity and contradiction, and creating of meaning occurs in the form of enjambement, rhyme, and couplet, (2) result of heuristic and retroactive or hermeneutic readings result in an elaboration on matters related to man’s ways in facing the event of dying, (3) any matrixes, models, and variants: the matrix found is the moral teaching about remembering with dying or the consciousness man in the event of his dying, which is, essentially, an event of manunggaling Kawula-Gusti (unification with God), the model is the word Asmaralaya, and the variants are (1) éling (remembering) man’s nature as kawula (subject), (2) knowing the essence of God, (3) endeavoring to be insan kamil (the idealman), (4) knowing ways of facing death, and (5) taking the step leading to and achieving manunggaling Kawula-Gusti, and (4) hypograms showing intertextual relationship with other works, there are hypogram potensial one and an actual one, transformed from the basic idea of the teaching about manunggaling Kawula-Gusti elaborated in Wirid Hidayat Jati, Suluk Saloka Jiwa, Suluk Supanalaya, Sérat Pamoring Kawula-Gusti, Sérat Paramayoga, Sérat Wédhatama and Al Quran.
