Analysis of the Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities of Machining Technique Graduates Based on Teachers’ Perceptions and Industry Needs

Knowledge, skills, and abilities are competencies used by companies to find employees needed for specific jobs.This study aims to (1) identify the knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA) outputs needed by graduates of SMK PIRI 1 Yogyakarta majoring in Mechanical Engineering according to teachers and industry; (2) determine the KSA outputs of SMK graduates majoring in Mechanical Engineering needed by the industry according to teachers and industry. This research is a descriptive study with a quantitative approach. The population of this study includes teachers from SMK PIRI 1 Yogyakarta and 8 manufacturing industry spread across Indonesia. The sample was determined using purposive sampling, with 14 respondents from SMK PIRI 1 Yogyakarta and 8 respondents from the manufacturing industry. The observation sheet in this study was in the form of a questionnaire. The research results indicate that (1) the Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities output needed by graduates of the PIRI 1 Yogyakarta Vocational High School's mechanical engineering program, according to teachers, is categorized as "good" with a percentage of 79%, while according to manufacturing industry practitioners, it falls into the "adequate" category with a percentage of 64%. (2) The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities output of vocational high school graduates in the mechanical engineering program needed by the industry, according to teachers, is categorized as "highly needed" with a percentage of 84%, whereas according to industry practitioners, it is categorized as "needed" with a percentage of 76%.
