Abstract

Hypertension is one of the degenerative diseases that threatens a large portion of the world's population, including Indonesia. This is because statistically, the number of people with hypertension continues to increase. Preventive measures are needed to reduce the likelihood of this condition occurring. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the level of knowledge and preventive behavior against hypertension among 13-25 year olds at the Metes Youth Health Center.

This study is a quantitative study with a cross-sectional design. The population and sample of this study included people registered as members of the youth health center in Metes Hamlet, with a total of 45 respondents. The sampling technique used in this study was purposive sampling. The instrument used was a questionnaire. Data analysis in this study used the Spearman Rank Correlation statistical test.

The results of the study indicate that there is a relationship between the level of knowledge and hypertension prevention behavior (p= 0.041) with a correlation coefficient of 0.306 (weak). Thus, it can be concluded that there is a relationship between the level of knowledge and hypertension prevention behavior among 13-25 year olds at the Metes Youth Health Center. The results of this study suggest that peer support should be maximized as a means of preventing hypertension among people aged 13-25 years, and that more attention should be paid to the role of youth health centers in disseminating information and hypertension prevention programs to this age group.
