Abstract

The continuous population growth in Bandung has led to an increase in consumption rates, resulting in a higher volume of waste production. Waste management can be carried out using the three R principles: reduce, reuse, and recycle. A waste bank is an implementation of this principle and a strategy to foster community awareness. Bersinar waste bank is a primary waste bank (BSI) that receives and assigns value to the waste collected by the Bandung community. The waste is stored in a central warehouse that includes storage areas and workstation areas. The variety of waste types and the misplacement of areas not in accordance with the process sequence cause workers to travel longer distances, reducing productivity. This study aims to design a layout that meets the area size requirements with a clear process and can minimize material movement distance. The layout design uses the Systematic Layout Planning (SLP) method, which outlines the process flow illustrated through an Operation Process Chart (OPC) and depicts the relationships between work areas using an Activity Relationship Chart (ARC) and an Activity Relationship Diagram (ARD). The layout design results in two alternative layout proposals. Both alternative layout proposals have a total movement distance that is shorter than the initial layout. The initial layout has a distance of 1,149 meters, while proposal 1 has a distance of 925 meters, saving 20%, and proposal 2 has a distance of 878 meters, saving 24%.
