Abstract

Traditional weaving industries face challenges related to low productivity, limited design variation, and weak competitiveness. This study aims to analyze the impact of semi-automated loom integration and design diversification on productivity and design performance in the Gamplong traditional weaving industry. The research employs a case study approach involving artisans from Paguyuban Tegar Gamplong, Yogyakarta. Data were collected through production time measurement, pre–post intervention comparison, and structured questionnaires using a 4-point Likert scale. The results show that the implementation of a modified semi-automated loom increased production capacity by 30–40% compared to conventional ATBM operation. Design performance also improved, indicated by the successful development of three new weaving motifs, two of which obtained copyright registration. Questionnaire analysis reveals positive perceptions from artisans, with average scores ranging from 3.15 to 3.50, indicating improved understanding, usability, and relevance of the implemented system. The findings confirm that integrating appropriate manufacturing technology and design innovation can significantly enhance productivity and creative performance in traditional weaving industries.
