Analysis correlation between physical ability and technical skills in participants of the volleyball SPMB KKO branch of high school level in DIY
Abstract
Technical skills in volleyball are a crucial aspect of the selection and development process for students
in the Special Sports Class (KKO) program, a process based on various components of physical ability.
This study aimed to analyze the relationship between physical ability and technical skills among high
school-level volleyball applicants for the KKO program in the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY). A
quantitative approach with a correlational design was employed. The study sample consisted of 100
volleyball applicants. Data were collected through physical ability tests covering flexibility, vertical
jump, balance, agility, reaction speed, movement speed, arm power, and the Multistage Fitness Test
(MFT) as well as volleyball technical skill tests. Data analysis was conducted using normality tests,
linearity tests, and Pearson Product-Moment correlation analysis with the aid of SPSS. The results
indicate that flexibility is significantly correlated with technical skills (r = 0.304; p = 0.002), vertical
jump (r = 0.400; p < 0.001), balance (r = 0.916; p < 0.001), agility (r = 0.400; p < 0.001), reaction speed
(r = 0.426; p < 0.001), movement speed (r = 0.597; p < 0.001), arm power (r = 0.708; p < 0.001), and
MFT (r = 0.653; p < 0.001). Thus, all physical ability components demonstrated a positive and
significant relationship with volleyball technical skills, with the strongest relationship observed in
balance.
