OPTIMALISASI PENDAMPINGAN ANAK DALAM MEMBANGUN EKOSISTEM PEMBINAAN PRESTASI BULU TANGKIS BERBASIS SPORT SCIENCE
Abstract
Developing badminton talent at an early age requires an ecosystem that supports children’s holistic development through the application of a scientific approach (sport science) and the active involvement of coaches and parents. This initiative aims to optimize support for children in building a badminton performance development ecosystem grounded in sports science. The program is conducted by a team of faculty members from the Sports Coaching Education Program, Faculty of Sports Science and Health, Yogyakarta State University, targeting children, young coaches, and parents. The implementation methods included outreach, training, mentoring, and evaluation through the FUNdamental stage of the Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) approach, integrated with the Shuttle Time program from the Badminton World Federation (BWF). Children gained experience learning the basic movements of badminton through fun, play-based activities, while coaches were equipped with sport science-based training methods and parents received education on positive guidance, nutrition, and psychological support for young athletes. The results of the program demonstrate high enthusiasm among participants, an increased understanding among coaches and parents of sport science-based coaching principles, and a growing motivation among children to practice badminton consistently in a safe and enjoyable environment. This program successfully strengthened collaboration among children, coaches, and parents as the foundation for building a healthy, sustainable, and child-centered ecosystem for performance development. Through this approach, it is hoped that a model for early-age badminton development will emerge that supports the achievement of athletic success while also fostering character, health, and an active lifestyle in children.
